Saturday 10am Plant Walk: Doctrine of Signatures: Reading the Language of Plants with Laura Clemmons
This guided plant walk invites participants to explore the ancient Doctrine of Signatures through direct observation of the living landscape. Together we will wander both the cultivated gardens and the wilder edges of the farm, learning to read the visible language of plants—their shape, color, texture, growth habits, and preferred habitats—as clues to their traditional healing gifts.
Through hands-on observation and discussion, we will look closely at local plants such as peony, yarrow, mullein, dandelion, plantain, teasel, and more, noticing how leaf form, stem structure, flowers, and overall presence mirror the ways these plants have long been understood to support both body and spirit. We will also pay attention to where plants choose to grow—along paths, in open fields, in disturbed soil, or at the margins—and what that reveals about their deeper nature and traditional uses.
Part folklore, part intuitive practice, and part ecological awareness, this class encourages participants to slow down, sharpen their powers of perception, and develop a more intimate relationship with the plants around them. No prior herbal experience is required—just curiosity, comfortable walking shoes, and a willingness to see the landscape with fresh eyes.
